On a rainy, gloomy Friday night at J.W. Babb Stadium, it appeared the Greenwood High Eagles would give fans a reason to forget the bad weather with an easy blow-out win. The skies would eventually clear and the rain did stop, but Greenwood High’s performance would not be in keeping with a turn in the weather conditions. The Lexington Wildcats reeled off 27 unanswered points and went on to shock Greenwood with a final score of 34-25.
Calling this a disappointing loss for Greenwood would be an understatement. In the first quarter, it appeared the Eagles were on their way to another convincing victory at home. Greenwood’s touchdown frenzy was dominated early on by the dynamic running duo of Swearinger and Best. After the Eagles defense forced a three and out on the Wildcats first possession, senior tailback D.J. Swearinger got the Eagles first score. Swearinger exploded through the middle of the Wildcats’ defense, on his way to a 40 yard touchdown run and an early 7-0 lead for the Eagles.
The Ninety Six Wildcats narrowly defeated the Emerald Vikings Thursday night 28-24 at Ninety Six’s Wilson-Campbell Stadium. With long night of miscues and penalties; it took one long run for the wildcats to seal the victory.
The Emerald Vikings were first to get on the board when backup quarterback Billy Pooser connected with Reggie Haskins for a 26 yard touchdown pass putting the Vikings up 6-0.With Emerald having the unorthodox extra point style; the Wildcats were not sure on what the Vikings were going to do. After a pass in the endzone for a 2 point conversion the Vikings lead 8-0. The lead was short lived because on Ninety Six’s next series Bareko Johnson ran the ball in from 14 yards out. Not to be out done the Wildcats went for a two point conversion of their own. Quarterback Parker Hite found Nathan Prater in the back of the endzone to tie the game up at 8-8.
